Walking amongst the giants in Dubai…

*Somewhere for the weekend* ~ Dubai…

It’s that time of the week again and this time I’m taking you on an out of this world whirlwind virtual adventure around Dubai. Checking out some of Dubai’s must sees and, of course, some of the best Geocaches on offer in the area.

For the past few years Dubai has been gaining popularity as the destination to be seen in. It rose from a small city to one of the world’s most talked about places from its trade in oil. Production of oil is now at its lowest level and instead Dubai makes more of its money through tourism and real estate than the oil it was once famed for.

Noted for the Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world, which is over half a mile high, and many other gigantic skyscrapers and high-rises, Dubai’s skyline really is something to behold. With plenty more buildings in construction Dubai doesn’t look like a city that’s slowing down anytime soon, so if you don’t mind walking amongst these giant buildings, and you’re looking to visit somewhere that’s on the up and up then Dubai might just be the city for you. Let’s see what else Dubai has to offer… 🙂

Must sees…

~ As I’ve just mentioned, and if you don’t mind heights, then a trip up the Burj Khalifa has to be at the top of the list.

Prices vary from between 125AED (around £22) for the basic ticket to 500AED (around £88) to ‘unlock the bonus level’ 🙂 – the difference is about 23 floors.

The 500AED ticket is called an ‘At the top, Burj Khalifa Sky ticket‘ which will get you up the extra floors to level 148 where you’ll have around 30 minutes to enjoy the view before making your way back down to level 125.

Will being up those extra 23 floors be that much more memorable? For an extra £66 I don’t know, but if you can afford it I’d say go for it. There’s not going to be many people who can say they’ve had that experience. 🙂

~ If that’s not high enough for you why not throw caution to the wind, as it were, and go skydiving. If the thought of jumping out of a plane to admire that pretty spectacular view doesn’t put your heart in your mouth then maybe the price will. It’s an astonishing 2000AED (around £350) to have the pleasure of being dropped out of a plane here…

Despite the high price, people are very willing to pay that amount and so I’d recommend booking well in advance for this one!

~ Time to bring this back down to Earth I think, if heights aren’t your bag but, errrm bags are then get yourself over to the Dubai Mall. Located in downtown Dubai right next to the Burj Khalifa you’ll find the world’s biggest indoor shopping centre, it’s floor space is about the size of 50 football pitches if you can imagine that. Just popping out to the shops here could end up being a day long adventure as you wander aimlessly around trying to find what you need…

Leave the kids at Sega Republic so you can really get into your shopping groove then skid on over to the ice rink before popping down to the aquarium for a wander around with the fishes, the choice is yours…!

If you’re driving in good luck finding your car again…draw a detailed map…leave some breadcrumbs I dunno, just hope for the best when you return with your arms laden with all that shopping…

~ Last but by no means least, mainly because it’s free and amazing, go see the fountain show. Located next to the mall it’s actually so big and so bright, with all the added lights and lasers, that you can see it from space!

Maybe the Travel Bug that went up with the Geocaching astronaut to the International Space Station saw it? Who knows? But on that note let’s see what the most favourited Geocache’s are in Dubai…

Love the cache owner’s (CO) name on this one!

If you’re travelling around the emirates and fancy a bit of a challenge then this is one cache of eight. Seven are placed in each of the seven emirates that make up the UAE with the extra cache created as a bonus once the other seven have been found. They are all located on promenades and all have spectacular views. A nice series if you live over that way.
