Favourite geocaches: Powys, Wales

Awarding our Geocaching favourite points: Where? Which? Why?

Sometimes we award favourite points for the memories attached to finding a cache, other times it’s for the creativity of the containers, and then there’s also the points for location…for taking us to a different place that we wouldn’t have otherwise known about. 🙂

A special mention has to be given to the fiendish puzzle caches which we award favourite points to for the time and effort that goes into putting them together – especially if there’s a great container at the end!!

Please let me know if there are any great caches that we should check out in your area as this list is by no means extensive – and we’re always up for a road trip!

Along the Border – GCZQZM by SidAndBob *Found on: 11/07/14*

Difficulty 2.5 – Terrain 4

Cache Type – Traditional

Along the border between Powys and Hereford you’ll find a remarkable view and a well concealed cache. Up a steepish climb the views to both Wales and England are quite dramatic and the reward of a cache at the top of a hill like that gives you all the more reason to go and take the hike :)

I ventured here with my good friend Rach and we set up camp at Llanthony Priory, which is a truly beautiful spot. We were fairly unprepared for the walk but we did take a couple of pasties and some beers with us to celebrate reaching the top – which I’d class as being prepared to some extent!

We’d arrived late in the afternoon and by the time we reached Offa’s Dyke path at the top of the mountain the sun had started to set and the skies were filled pink clouds and a peaceful silence. It was quite a magical moment watching the sun setting behind a family of wild horses as we tucked into our cheese and onion pasties and beer before heading for the cache.

Great location, awesome views, good times and definitely worth heading up to if you’re in the area :)
