Favourite geocaches: Oxfordshire

Awarding our Geocaching favourite points: Where? Which? Why?

Sometimes we award favourite points for the memories attached to finding a cache, other times it’s for the creativity of the containers, and then there’s also the points for location…for taking us to a different place that we wouldn’t have otherwise known about. 🙂

A special mention has to be given to the fiendish puzzle caches which we award favourite points to for the time and effort that goes into putting them together – especially if there’s a great container at the end!!

Please let me know if there are any great caches that we should check out in your area as this list is by no means extensive – and we’re always up for a road trip!

Difficulty 1.5 – Terrain 1.5

Cache Type: Traditional

Oxfordshire is the perfect place for Geocaching, steeped in history and with lots of secret pathways and interesting routes it makes for a great days caching. I’ve only highlighted one of the caches we found that day but I’ll mention the others too because they are all worth a look.

Our main plan for the day was to have a look around Oxford, as I’d never been, and of course to pick up a few caches. The reason we were over this way was because we had a SegRally experience booked for the morning not too far away and so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to head over after.

Little me at the SegRally experience

As you can see from the picture we could have done so many more but we did pick up a virtual University Challenge 10 (Stomp Stomp), a multi Morris Men (Geolympix FTFrenzy – 9) and two traditional’s Oxford Snark Hunt (Fit the 2nd) – Botanic Gardens and, of course, Wreck this Logbook*.

I picked the last one out of all of them because we bumped into a couple of fellow geocacher’s and all had a laugh ‘wrecking the logbook’ together before moving on. It’s the first one of this type that I’ve seen and I think that’s what added to the appeal of it. A great idea for a cache…
